Add an AppDelegate callback for implicit FlutterEngines (#176240)
This PR introduces a new protocol `FlutterImplicitEngineDelegate`, which
adds a callback called `didInitializeImplicitFlutterEngine`, which
returns a new interface called `FlutterImplicitEngineBridge`.
This was added to expose parts of an implicit `FlutterEngine`, such as
when created from a `FlutterViewController` in a storyboard.
``` swift diff
@objc class AppDelegate: FlutterAppDelegate, FlutterImplicitEngineDelegate {
override func application(
_ application: UIApplication,
didFinishLaunchingWithOptions launchOptions: [UIApplication.LaunchOptionsKey: Any]?
) -> Bool {
return super.application(application, didFinishLaunchingWithOptions: launchOptions)
}
}
func didInitializeImplicitFlutterEngine(_ engineBridge: FlutterImplicitEngineBridge) {
// Register plugins with `engineBridge.pluginRegistry`
GeneratedPluginRegistrant.register(with: engineBridge.pluginRegistry)
// Create method channels with `engineBridge.applicationRegistrar.messenger()`
let batteryChannel = FlutterMethodChannel(
name: "samples.flutter.dev/battery",
binaryMessenger: engineBridge.applicationRegistrar.messenger()
)
...
// Create platform views with `engineBridge.applicationRegistrar.messenger()`
let factory = FLNativeViewFactory(messenger: engineBridge.applicationRegistrar.messenger())
...
}
```
This PR also refactors `FlutterPluginRegistrar` into 3 separate
protocols:
* `FlutterBaseRegistrar`
* `FlutterApplicationRegistrar`
* `FlutterPluginRegistrar`
Most methods are moved from `FlutterPluginRegistrar` to
`FlutterBaseRegistrar` and then `FlutterPluginRegistrar` and
`FlutterApplicationRegistrar` inherit from `FlutterBaseRegistrar`.
`FlutterPluginRegistrar` also has additional methods specific to it -
there are no meaningful/breaking changes to `FlutterPluginRegistrar`.
Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/173357.

Add state restoration for UIScene migration (#176305)
When an iOS app migrates to UIScene, the application events for handling state restoration are no longer called by UIKit. Instead, scene events in the SceneDelegate must be used. This PR adds support for handling state restoration in UIScene while still maintaining support for unmigrated apps, as well. Fix Voiceover traversal for OutlinedButton.icon (#175810)
Fixes #172489 When an OutlinedButton.icon is initially built with a null icon and later updated to display an icon, the underlying widget implementation changes. The button switches from a standard OutlinedButton to a private _OutlinedButtonWithIcon widget. This switch causes the button's entire semantic node to be destroyed and a new one created in its place. For screen readers like VoiceOver, this behavior is disruptive. If an accessibility service is focused on the button when its icon appears, that focus is lost because the original semantic node is discarded, leading to strange behaviour as it makes an best effort to focus on an existing node. This PR resolves the issue by ensuring the same widget is used regardless of whether the icon is present. The logic for _OutlinedButtonWithIcon has been merged into the base class OutlinedButton, ensuring that no matter if you call OutlinedButton.icon or OutlinedButton you recieve a widget of type OutlinedButton. Add SwiftUI support for UIScene migration (#176230)
When embedding Flutter in a SwiftUI app, it appears that SwiftUI wraps the scene delegate given by the developer in an internal class called `SwiftUI.AppSceneDelegate`. This causes the scene delegate to fail to check if it conforms to the `FlutterSceneLifeCycleProvider` protocol - even though it does. However, after force casting it, selectors respond and can be used. ## Pre-launch Checklist - [x] I read the [Contributor Guide] and followed the process outlined there for submitting PRs. - [x] I read the [Tree Hygiene] wiki page, which explains my responsibilities. - [x] I read and followed the [Flutter Style Guide], including [Features we expect every widget to implement]. - [x] I signed the [CLA]. - [x] I listed at least one issue that this PR fixes in the description above. - [x] I updated/added relevant documentation (doc comments with `///`). - [x] I added new tests to check the change I am making, or this PR is [test-exempt]. - [x] I followed the [breaking change policy] and added [Data Driven Fixes] where supported. - [x] All existing and new tests are passing. Add scene plugin lifecycle events (#175866)
This PR forwards scene lifecycle events from the SceneDelegate to
registered plugins.
This PR introduced 3 new public APIs:
* `FlutterSceneLifeCycleDelegate` (protocol) - This is the protocol that
plugins conform to
* `FlutterSceneLifeCycleProvider` (protocol) - This is the protocol that
a SceneDelegate can conform to instead of `FlutterSceneDelegate`
* `FlutterPluginSceneLifeCycleDelegate` (interface) - This is the class
object that a SceneDelegate using `FlutterSceneLifeCycleProvider` can
use to forward scene events to
The flow of events are as followed when SceneDelegate subclasses the
`FlutterSceneDelegate`:
* `FlutterSceneDelegate` receives `sceneDidBecomeActive` event from
UIKit
* `FlutterSceneDelegate` forwards `sceneDidBecomeActive` to
`FlutterPluginSceneLifeCycleDelegate`
* `FlutterPluginSceneLifeCycleDelegate` loops through each
`FlutterEngine` it has and forwards `sceneDidBecomeActive` to the
engine's `FlutterEnginePluginSceneLifeCycleDelegate`
* `FlutterEnginePluginSceneLifeCycleDelegate` loops through each plugin
that conforms to `FlutterSceneLifeCycleDelegate` it has and forwards
`sceneDidBecomeActive` to the plugin
* `FlutterPluginSceneLifeCycleDelegate` forwards `sceneDidBecomeActive`
to `FlutterPluginAppLifeCycleDelegate` using
`sceneDidBecomeActiveFallback`
* `FlutterPluginAppLifeCycleDelegate` loops through all plugins and
calls `applicationDidBecomeActive` if the plugin does not conform to
`FlutterSceneLifeCycleDelegate`
When using `FlutterSceneLifeCycleProvider` instead of
`FlutterSceneDelegate`, scene events are manually forwarded to
`FlutterPluginSceneLifeCycleDelegate` by the iOS developer. For example:
```swift
class SceneDelegate: UIResponder, UIWindowSceneDelegate, FlutterSceneLifeCycleProvider {
var sceneLifeCycleDelegate: FlutterPluginSceneLifeCycleDelegate = FlutterPluginSceneLifeCycleDelegate()
func sceneDidBecomeActive(_ scene: UIScene) {
sceneLifeCycleDelegate.sceneDidBecomeActive(scene)
}
```
Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/174398.

Implement Regular Windows for the win32 framework + add an example application for regular windows (#173715)
## What's new?
- Implement and test `_window_win32.dart`, the Win32 implementation of
`_window.dart` 🎉
- Wrote a bunch of tests in `window_win32_test.dart` which uses a mock
API barrier to mock the native Win32 layer
- Update `BaseWindowController` to extend `ChangeNotifier` and use it to
inform the `WindowScope` of when things change
- Made `RegularWindowController.empty()` a non-internal constructor, as
it is needed by implementations
- Added a _large_ example application for windowing where users can test
out different windowing concepts and see how they work!
To test, simply run the tests or try out the example app!

[HCPP] Clean up overlay layer when last frame had overlay content and current doesn't (#173881)
Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/173635 My current understanding of the issue is that we are never pushing a new empty frame for this layer, so the texture gets stuck as shown in the bug. If we keep track of when we had content last frame, and don't in the current frame, we can push a single empty frame for that layer when needed. See example in https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/173635#issuecomment-3192787040 ## Pre-launch Checklist - [x] I read the [Contributor Guide] and followed the process outlined there for submitting PRs. Remove jetifier usages from framework and engine (#173459)
Justification this is safe: useAndroidX which I left in this pr was added in 2018 and is one of 2 flags that control what compile behavior is used as android migrated from the support library to androidx. We (flutter android) believe we have migrated all support library usages to android x. Android Studio does not automatically insert the Jetifier flag in newly created projects, suggesting a move towards less reliance on it. I think even if plugins were using the support libraries this pr would not break them because the targets being modified are tests in this repo and the engine build which only uses androidx dependencies. - [ ] I added new tests to check the change I am making, or this PR is [test-exempt]. - [x] I followed the [breaking change policy] and added [Data Driven Fixes] where supported. - [x] All existing and new tests are passing. |

Migrate to list and builder Sliver convenience constructors (#173011)
In 2022, we introduced new convenience constructors like `SliverList.builder` and `SliverList.list`. Unfortunately, LLMs like Gemini seem to prefer the delegate pattern even when these convenience constructors are usable. This updates Flutter's docs, code, and tests to use these convenience constructors where possible. Hopefully this will nudge LLMs to consider using the new APIs :) I migrated 80% of the code by hand, and 20% using Gemini CLI. See [go/loic-ai-log](http://goto.google.com/loic-ai-log) (Google internal) for details. There's a few locations that I wasn't able to migrate to the convenience constructors due to missing APIs. I filed the following issues: 1. https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/173018 2. https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/173019 ## Pre-launch Checklist - [x] I read the [Contributor Guide] and followed the process outlined there for submitting PRs. - [x] I read the [Tree Hygiene] wiki page, which explains my responsibilities. - [x] I read and followed the [Flutter Style Guide], including [Features we expect every widget to implement]. - [x] I signed the [CLA]. - [ ] I listed at least one issue that this PR fixes in the description above. - [x] I updated/added relevant documentation (doc comments with `///`). - [x] I added new tests to check the change I am making, or this PR is [test-exempt]. - [x] I followed the [breaking change policy] and added [Data Driven Fixes] where supported. - [ ] All existing and new tests are passing. Add the 'windowing' feature flag and use to wrap an implementation for regular windows that always throws (#172478)
## What's new? - Added the `windowing` feature flag to the project - Created the internal `_window.dart` API with support for regular windows - Implemented a `_WindowingOwnerUnsupported` implementation of the `WindowingOwner` interface - Marked all points of the public API as `@internal` with a corresponding warning documentation - Threw an `UnsupportedError` where it is appropriate to do so Note that this PR does **NOT** include a real implementation of `WindowingOwner` (e.g. for win32 or macOS). That work will be opened as a follow up. This work is based off of https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168697 and http://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168437, as well as this design document: https://docs.flutter.dev/go/multi-window-experimental-apis ## Pre-launch Checklist - [x] I read the [Contributor Guide] and followed the process outlined there for submitting PRs. --------- Co-authored-by: Loïc Sharma <737941+loic-sharma@users.noreply.github.com> |

Refactor Android platform view code in advance of enabling HCPP on existing PV widgets (behind a flag) (#170553)
Should introduce no behavior changes. Refactors the android platform
view code so that
1. The delegator is ready to delegate between PlatformViewsController
(PVC) 1 and 2, and implements a
`PlatformViewsChannel.PlatformViewsHandler`.
2. The `PlatformViewCreationRequest` and `PlatformViewTouch` are fully
shared between the two platform view modes
3. Introduces new factory constructors for the different types of
`PlatformViewCreationRequest`s, corresponding to the modes.
Making the flag work on existing widgets will be done in a follow up PR

This PR is split into two commits: 1. d6253794e8982348c5c21cb63e8f6bf785664be6, code from https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168437 without any changes 2. f35d29e4af630d2d4fdb0cda8686b6ff9f77227a, updates the PR to omit obvious types. Original PR description: ## Motivation We'd like to let users opt-in to experimental features so that they can give early feedback while we iterate on the feature. For example: Example feature flags: 1. Android sensitive content: https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/158473. When enabled, Flutter will tell Android when the view contains sensitive content like a password. 3. Desktop multi-window. When enabled, Flutter will use child windows to allow things like a context menu to "escape" outside of the current window. ### Use case Users will be able to turn on features by: * **Option 1**: Run `flutter config --enable-my-feature`. This enables the feature for all projects on the machine * **Option 2**: Add `enable-my-feature: true` in their `pubspec.yaml`, under the `flutter` section. This would enable the for a single project on the machine. Turning on a feature affects _both_ development-time (`flutter run`) and deployment-time (`flutter build x`). For example, I can `flutter build windows` to create an `.exe` with multi-window features enabled. ## How this works This adds a new [`runtimeId`](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168437/files#diff-0ded384225f19a4c34d43c7c11f7cb084ff3db947cfa82d8d52fc94c112bb2a7R243-R247) property to the tool's `Feature` class. If a feature is on and has a `runtimeId`, its `runtimeId` will be [stamped into the Dart application as a Dart define](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168437/files#diff-bd662448bdc2e6f50e47cd3b20b22b41a828561bce65cb4d54ea4f5011cc604eR293-R327). The framework uses this Dart define to [determine which features are enabled](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168437/files#diff-c8dbd5cd3103bc5be53c4ac5be8bdb9bf73e10cd5d8e4ac34e737fd1f8602d45). ### Multi-window example https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168697 shows how this new feature flag system can be used to add a multi-window feature flag: 1. It adds a new [multi-window feature](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168697/files#diff-0ded384225f19a4c34d43c7c11f7cb084ff3db947cfa82d8d52fc94c112bb2a7R189-R198) to the Flutter tool. This can be turned on using `flutter config --enable-multi-window` or by putting `enable-multi-window: true` in an app's .pubspec, under the `flutter` section. 2. It adds a new [`isMultiWindowEnabled`](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168697/files#diff-c8dbd5cd3103bc5be53c4ac5be8bdb9bf73e10cd5d8e4ac34e737fd1f8602d45R7-R11) property to the framework. 4. The Material library can use this new property to determine whether it should create a new window. [Example](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168697/files#diff-2cbc1634ed6b61d61dfa090e7bfbbb7c60b74c8abc3a28df6f79eee691fd1b73). ## Limitations ### Tool and framework only For now, these feature flags are available only to the Flutter tool and Flutter framework. The flags are not automatically available to the embedder or the engine. For example, embedders need to configure their surfaces differently if Impeller is enabled. This configuration must happen before the Dart isolate is launched. As a result, the framework's feature flags is not a viable solution for this scenario for now. For these kinds of scenarios, we should continue to use platform-specific configuration like the `AndroidManifest.xml` or `Info.plist` files. This is a fixable limitation, we just need to invest in this plumbing :) ### Tree shaking Feature flags are not designed to help tree shaking. For example, you cannot conditionally import Dart code depending on the enabled feature flags. Code that is feature flagged off will still be imported into user's apps. |

Normalize input decoration theme (#168981)
This PR is to make `InputDecorationTheme` conform to Flutter Material's conventions for component themes: - Added a `InputDecorationThemeData` class which defines overrides for the defaults for `InputDecorator` properties. - Added `InputDecorationTheme` constructor parameters: `InputDecorationThemeData? data` and `Widget? child`. This is now the preferred way to configure a `InputDecorationTheme`: ```dart InputDecorationTheme( data: InputDecorationThemeData( filled: true, fillColor: Colors.amber, ... ), child: const TextField() ) ``` These two properties are made nullable to not break existing apps which has customized `ThemeData.inputDecorationTheme`. - Update `InputDecorationTheme` to be an `InheritedTheme` subclass. - Changed the type of component theme defaults from `InputDecorationTheme` to `InputDecorationThemeData`. - Changed the `InputDecorationTheme bottomAppBarTheme` property to `Object? bottomAppBarTheme` in `ThemeData` and `ThemeData.copyWith()` (Object? is used for the moment to minimize Google tests failure. A follow-up PR will replace `Object?` with `InputDecorationThemeData`. - Addresses the "theme normalization" sub-project within #91772. A migration guide will be created on website repo. |

Workspace (#169556)
Reland after https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/169844. Switch Flutter to use pub workspaces as a preparation to unpin selected packages. Assumptions: 1. No packages in this repository are published to pub.dev --> We can use `any` dependencies in most local pubspecs, as the global constraint defines the version. An exception are the packages used outside of this repo with an `sdk` dependency, namely `flutter_localizations`, `flutter_test`, and `flutter`. 2. The "universes" `{flutter_tools}` and `{flutter, flutter_localizations, flutter_goldens}` can use different packages versions, as they are not resolved together. --> We do not need to upgrade them in sync, we can first do one "universe", then the other. Based on these assumptions, we use https://github.com/mosuem/pubspec_merger.dart to merge all packages in the `flutter` universe into a top-level pub workspace. The `flutter` and `flutter_tools` workspaces being separate also ensures that changes to `flutter` will not inadvertently break `flutter_tools`, with not-so-nice consequences for our users which would be unable to run `flutter upgrade`. There is a third "top-level" pubspec besides `./pubspec.yaml` and `packages/flutter_tools/pubspec.yaml`, namely `packages/flutter_tools/.../widget_preview_scaffold/pubspec.yaml`. This is an artifact due to it living under `flutter_tools`, so it can't be part of the `./pubspec.yaml` workspace. Moving it would be a larger change, and out of the scope of this PR. This required a rewrite of the update-packages tool, but the main functionality stays the same, as well as the argument names, to ensure a seamless transition. I have to factor out abstract class for RadioGroupRegistry and
RadioClient which are subclassed by RadioGroupState and RawRadio
respectively.
I have to do this because the RadioListTile that has 2 focusnode one for
listTile and one for the radio it builds. The issue is that RadioGroup's
keyboard shortcut has to tightly couples with the focus node of each
radio, but the radioListtile has to mute the radio's focusnode so it can
act as one control under keyboard shortcut

[Reland3] Implements UISceneDelegate dynamically w/ FlutterLaunchEngine (#169276) (#169365)
## **BREAKING CHANGE** Adopting Apple's UISceneDelegate protocol shifts the initialization order of apps. For the common cases we've made sure they will work without change. The one case that will require a change is any app that in `-[UIApplicateDelegate didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:]` assumes that `UIApplicationDelegate.window.rootViewController` is a `FlutterViewController` instance. Users should follow the [migration guide](https://docs.google.com/document/d/16WsqYbANmhupw-gxGPQPZ9B3yz1YBIviS-N1UyIQNSE/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.txry2otwqko3) to update that usage. ## Changes since revert It's been rebased onto the FlutterPluginRegistrant PR which was used for migration. The dynamic selection of the UISceneDelegate has been removed, instead there is a flutter tool migration to the Info.plist. ## Description fixes: https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/167267 design doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZfcQOs-UKRa9jsFG84-MTFeibZTLKCvPQLxF2eskx44/edit?tab=t.0 relands https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168396 relands https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168914 relands https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/169276 ## Pre-launch Checklist - [x] I read the [Contributor Guide] and followed the process outlined there for submitting PRs. |
