Move android_obfuscate_test from devicelab into tools integration.shard (#169798)
`android_obfuscate_test` is currently being schedule to run on a limited devicelab physical phone bot. However, it's only checking if `--obfuscate` works, not running anything on the device, so can move into the tools test integration shard. https://ci.chromium.org/ui/p/flutter/builders/prod/Linux_pixel_7pro%20android_obfuscate_test/7722/overview The test only takes < 2 minutes, spinning up an entire build for it, especially on a devicelab bot, is wasteful. Migrate to null aware elements - Part 5 (#172418)
## Description Continuing the work from @jamilsaadeh97 to replace verbose null checks with modern [null_aware_elements](https://dart.dev/tools/linter-rules/use_null_aware_elements) syntax. This PR cleans up the remaining files not covered in the previous parts, making the code more concise. ## Related PRs - https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/172198 - https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/172306 - https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/172307 - https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/172322 ## Pre-launch Checklist - [x] I read the [Contributor Guide] and followed the process outlined there for submitting PRs. - [x] I read the [Tree Hygiene] wiki page, which explains my responsibilities. - [x] I read and followed the [Flutter Style Guide], including [Features we expect every widget to implement]. - [x] I signed the [CLA]. - [x] I listed at least one issue that this PR fixes in the description above. - [x] I updated/added relevant documentation (doc comments with `///`). - [x] I added new tests to check the change I am making, or this PR is [test-exempt]. - [x] I followed the [breaking change policy] and added [Data Driven Fixes] where supported. - [x] All existing and new tests are passing. |

[Android] remove obsolete gradle api in FGP (#172085)
fixes #170791 This PR replaces the deprecated (and removed in 9.0) Gradle fileMode API in favor of filePermissions. This change finally unlocks builds with gradle 9 (confirmed in smoke tests, 9.0.0-rc.2 is the latest prerelease version to the date). **Testing strategy** There's an attempt to add a Kotlin unit test that confirms that `filePermissions` were called during plugin application. I failed to find a more precise way to check if the new code works as intended (such as testing that permissions were really changed or something like that), but on the other hand, it should not be required since it will transform the test in a way that it will start to test Gradle APIs and their behavior, and I believe it's a bit out of scope: Gradle APIs are tested in Gradle tests :) Anyway, this new test is a bit cumbersome because it's required to mock all the behaviours related to variants configuration and capturing calls – If it is not desired im not hesitant to remove it. <!-- Thanks for filing a pull request! Reland "Add feature flags to the framework" (#171545)
This relands https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168437. The google3 fixes were landed in: https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/171547, https://critique.corp.google.com/cl/781275353, https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/171933. This PR is split into two commits: 1. d6253794e8982348c5c21cb63e8f6bf785664be6, code from https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168437 without any changes 2. f35d29e4af630d2d4fdb0cda8686b6ff9f77227a, updates the PR to omit obvious types. Original PR description: ## Motivation We'd like to let users opt-in to experimental features so that they can give early feedback while we iterate on the feature. For example: Example feature flags: 1. Android sensitive content: https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/158473. When enabled, Flutter will tell Android when the view contains sensitive content like a password. 3. Desktop multi-window. When enabled, Flutter will use child windows to allow things like a context menu to "escape" outside of the current window. ### Use case Users will be able to turn on features by: * **Option 1**: Run `flutter config --enable-my-feature`. This enables the feature for all projects on the machine * **Option 2**: Add `enable-my-feature: true` in their `pubspec.yaml`, under the `flutter` section. This would enable the for a single project on the machine. Turning on a feature affects _both_ development-time (`flutter run`) and deployment-time (`flutter build x`). For example, I can `flutter build windows` to create an `.exe` with multi-window features enabled. ## How this works This adds a new [`runtimeId`](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168437/files#diff-0ded384225f19a4c34d43c7c11f7cb084ff3db947cfa82d8d52fc94c112bb2a7R243-R247) property to the tool's `Feature` class. If a feature is on and has a `runtimeId`, its `runtimeId` will be [stamped into the Dart application as a Dart define](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168437/files#diff-bd662448bdc2e6f50e47cd3b20b22b41a828561bce65cb4d54ea4f5011cc604eR293-R327). The framework uses this Dart define to [determine which features are enabled](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168437/files#diff-c8dbd5cd3103bc5be53c4ac5be8bdb9bf73e10cd5d8e4ac34e737fd1f8602d45). ### Multi-window example https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168697 shows how this new feature flag system can be used to add a multi-window feature flag: 1. It adds a new [multi-window feature](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168697/files#diff-0ded384225f19a4c34d43c7c11f7cb084ff3db947cfa82d8d52fc94c112bb2a7R189-R198) to the Flutter tool. This can be turned on using `flutter config --enable-multi-window` or by putting `enable-multi-window: true` in an app's .pubspec, under the `flutter` section. 2. It adds a new [`isMultiWindowEnabled`](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168697/files#diff-c8dbd5cd3103bc5be53c4ac5be8bdb9bf73e10cd5d8e4ac34e737fd1f8602d45R7-R11) property to the framework. 4. The Material library can use this new property to determine whether it should create a new window. [Example](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168697/files#diff-2cbc1634ed6b61d61dfa090e7bfbbb7c60b74c8abc3a28df6f79eee691fd1b73). ## Limitations ### Tool and framework only For now, these feature flags are available only to the Flutter tool and Flutter framework. The flags are not automatically available to the embedder or the engine. For example, embedders need to configure their surfaces differently if Impeller is enabled. This configuration must happen before the Dart isolate is launched. As a result, the framework's feature flags is not a viable solution for this scenario for now. For these kinds of scenarios, we should continue to use platform-specific configuration like the `AndroidManifest.xml` or `Info.plist` files. This is a fixable limitation, we just need to invest in this plumbing :) ### Tree shaking Feature flags are not designed to help tree shaking. For example, you cannot conditionally import Dart code depending on the enabled feature flags. Code that is feature flagged off will still be imported into user's apps. |

3. ## Pre-launch Checklist - [x] I read the [Contributor Guide] and followed the process outlined there for submitting PRs. Reland "[native assets] Build dev dependencies in flutter test integration_test" (#170728)
Reland https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/170686. Closes: https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/168961. Original PR in first commit. Fix in subsequent commit: * Do process invocation of `flutter pub add` in a different way. Fixes: `ProcessException: %1 is not a valid Win32 application` Reproduced locally by changing dev/devicelab/bin/tasks/native_assets_android.dart to `DeviceOperatingSystem.windows` and verified the `flutter pub add` call now succeeds. (Also, moved the add integration test into the create test project to avoid having multiple `flutter pub get`s.) Third time is the charm. |

So the environment is set directly.~~ Edit: We use the simpler `kBuildMode` to decide whether to include the native assets for dev dependencies. ## Testing * The desktop OSes and `flutter-tester` are tested in `packages/flutter_tools/test/integration.shard/isolated/native_assets_test.dart`. * iOS simulator, device, and Android device are tested in the device lab. * (All tests were added to existing tests, hopefully these don't start timing out.) ## Pre-launch Checklist - [x] I read the [Contributor Guide] and followed the process outlined there for submitting PRs. Validate build configuration during Xcode build phase (#169395)
You can run iOS/macOS Flutter apps through either the Flutter CLI or Xcode. However, it's often required to first run the Flutter CLI to generate required files and settings. Some of these settings/files (like dev dependencies) are specific to the build mode. However, you can change the build mode through Xcode too. When you change the build mode through Xcode, the Flutter-generated files and setting may not be correct. This PR checks if the current build mode matches the one last used by the Flutter CLI. If it doesn't, it'll print a warning like this: If the build action is `install`, which indicates the app is being built for distribution, this will print as an error and fail the build: ## Pre-launch Checklist - [x] I read the [Contributor Guide] and followed the process outlined there for submitting PRs. - [x] I read the [Tree Hygiene] wiki page, which explains my responsibilities. - [x] I read and followed the [Flutter Style Guide], including [Features we expect every widget to implement]. - [x] I signed the [CLA]. - [ ] I listed at least one issue that this PR fixes in the description above. This change reverts the following previous change:
Reland after #169357.
Switch Flutter to use pub workspaces as a preparation to unpin selected
packages.
Assumptions:
1. No packages in this repository are published to pub.dev --> We can
use `any` dependencies in most local pubspecs, as the global constraint
defines the version. An exception are the packages used outside of this
repo with an `sdk` dependency, namely `flutter_localizations`,
`flutter_test`, and `flutter`.
2. The "universes" `{flutter_tools}` and `{flutter,
flutter_localizations, flutter_goldens}` can use different packages
versions, as they are not resolved together. --> We do not need to
upgrade them in sync, we can first do one "universe", then the other.
Based on these assumptions, we use
https://github.com/mosuem/pubspec_merger.dart to merge all packages in
the `flutter` universe into a top-level pub workspace.
The `flutter` and `flutter_tools` workspaces being separate also ensures
that changes to `flutter` will not inadvertently break `flutter_tools`,
with not-so-nice consequences for our users which would be unable to run
`flutter upgrade`.
There is a third "top-level" pubspec besides `./pubspec.yaml` and
`packages/flutter_tools/pubspec.yaml`, namely
`packages/flutter_tools/.../widget_preview_scaffold/pubspec.yaml`. This
is an artifact due to it living under `flutter_tools`, so it can't be
part of the `./pubspec.yaml` workspace. Moving it would be a larger
change, and out of the scope of this PR.
This required a rewrite of the update-packages tool, but the main
functionality stays the same, as well as the argument names, to ensure a
seamless transition.

Use pub workspace (#168662)
Switch Flutter to use pub workspaces as a preparation to unpin selected
packages.
Assumptions:
1. No packages in this repository are published to pub.dev --> We can
use `any` dependencies in most local pubspecs, as the global constraint
defines the version. An exception are the packages used outside of this
repo with an `sdk` dependency, namely `flutter_localizations`,
`flutter_test`, and `flutter`.
2. The "universes" `{flutter_tools}` and `{flutter,
flutter_localizations, flutter_goldens}` can use different packages
versions, as they are not resolved together. --> We do not need to
upgrade them in sync, we can first do one "universe", then the other.
Based on these assumptions, we use
https://github.com/mosuem/pubspec_merger.dart to merge all packages in
the `flutter` universe into a top-level pub workspace.
The `flutter` and `flutter_tools` workspaces being separate also ensures
that changes to `flutter` will not inadvertently break `flutter_tools`,
with not-so-nice consequences for our users which would be unable to run
`flutter upgrade`.
There is a third "top-level" pubspec besides `./pubspec.yaml` and
`packages/flutter_tools/pubspec.yaml`, namely
`packages/flutter_tools/.../widget_preview_scaffold/pubspec.yaml`. This
is an artifact due to it living under `flutter_tools`, so it can't be
part of the `./pubspec.yaml` workspace. Moving it would be a larger
change, and out of the scope of this PR.
This required a rewrite of the update-packages tool, but the main
functionality stays the same, as well as the argument names, to ensure a
seamless transition.

Unpin test/test_core/test_api packages (#169198)
These packages were recently pinned (in https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/168916) due to a bug (https://github.com/dart-lang/test/issues/2498). That bug was fixed and new versions of the test packages published. This change unpins and lets them upgrade to the fixed version. |

Disable the ability to opt-out of explicit-package-dependencies. (#169283)
This feature landed opt-in in 3.29 and opt-out in 3.32: https://docs.flutter.dev/release/breaking-changes/flutter-generate-i10n-source In this PR, we remove the ability to use `flutter config --no-enable-explicit-package-dependencies`, and remove all places that opt-in to the flag (which are currently NOPs). Follow-up PRs will refactor tests relying on the older behavior, and then finally remove `package:flutter_gen` and the `.flutter-plugins` (legacy format) file guarded by this flag. |

[native assets] Graduate to preview (#169194)
This PR enables native assets on the main and dev channel by default, and make native assets available on the beta channel. This PR removes the flag from invocations. The helper packages (`package:hooks` and `package:code_assets`) will stay 0.x for now, until the SDK constraint can be bumped to a beta release and we're happy with the Dart API. Fix keyboard_hot_restart_ios flakes (#168518)
The keyboard hot restart test does these steps: 1. It launches an app that forces the keyboard to be visible 2. It checks that the keyboard is visible by examining the app's logs 3. It updates the app to no longer force the keyboard to be visible and hot restarts the app 4. It checks that the keyboard is no longer visible by examining the app's logs Previously, the test app printed the keyboard status whenever the app rebuilt. The test would move on as soon as it saw a log that indicates the keyboard was in the expected state. However, since the app could log the keyboard's visibility _before_ the Dart VM was available, hot restart commands could be ignored (or at least, that's my theory from the DeviceLab logs). Now, the test app prints the keyboard status non-stop. The test now waits until the Dart VM is available before checking if the logs indicate the keyboard is open. Also, the test now waits until the hot restart has completed before checking if the keyboard is closed. In theory, this should ensure that hot restart does not happen until after the Dart VM is available. Using headless=new for Chrome macrobenchmarks (#168256)
My newly added DDC macrobenchmarks tests have been timing out on the test infra. It turns out that `headless` Chrome is significantly slower than headful Chrome (reasons unknown, but perhaps related to hardware acceleration). Using `--headless=new` instead of `flutter run`'s headless flag (which uses the old headless mode) makes my local runs significantly (10x+) faster. *This time for sure* |
