192939c3a6 [impeller] merge aiks directory into impeller/display_list directory. (flutter/engine#55471)
Aiks has been gutted, and most of the reming types need to be merged with dl/entity types and deleted. this is difficult to do with impeller/display_list and aiks as separate gn targets as it requires circular deps.

Lets merge them and remove the aiks directory.

18b9cd0233 Add format field to EGL surface backing store (flutter/engine#54499)
Trying to use the `GL_BGRA8_EXT` format for the EGL surface backing store on *desktop* OpenGL platforms would fail at: 82d8bc5844/shell/platform/embedder/embedder.cc (L869)

This seems to be a known issue and both the Linux and Windows embedders have some logic to pick a different format depending on the OpenGL context information:

This pull-request gets rid of the hard-coded `GL_BGRA8_EXT` format and makes it configurable by adding a `format` field to the `FlutterOpenGLSurface` struct.

_Disclaimer_: This has only been tested on desktop Linux (Wayland) using the `GR_GL_RGBA8` format which seemed to work as expected.

Shouldn't land until experimental canvas bakes a while

Major milestone along the route to making display list the impeller API. Removes the secondary compositor in entity pass. After this point, we can begin ripping out the DL->Aiks conversions and making entities more efficient.

79e371517d [Impeller] fix Impeller on windows. (flutter/engine#55323)

Since the introduction of the flutter compositor, the windows embedder will create an offscreen framebuffer and then blit this to the onscreen framebuffer. Therefore, the onscreen framebuffer should not be constructed as a multisample framebuffer - and the EGL config can match skia.

Also cleans up selection of the impeller PixelFormat, which might not have matched the selected compositor format because it was hardcoded to RGBA_8888

dd7948b2fe [Impeller] add basic culling checks during text frame dispatcher. (flutter/engine#55168)

Dl dispatching still relies on cull rects computed during that dispatch process. Make sure that the text frame dispatcher doesn't populate text frames that are way offscreen.

This culling is more conservative than the rendering dispatcher. We'd need to do some refactoring so the logic isn't repeated multiple times.

Note that the macOS embedder is still using the apple texture cache object from the SkiaMetalContext. it can't initialize an equivalent ImpellerMetalContext without creating a second copy of the content context and all that jazz, so I'm leaving that as is for now.

Today, only a generic "internal inconsistency" error returned. But custom builds that selectively disable rendering backends may find this error to be too vague.

2289895234 Ensure Vulkan when including Skia Vulkan headers (flutter/engine#55126)
Skia is changing how it handles its internal copy of Vulkan headers to
prevent them from accidentally leaking to users and potentially
overriding the user's Vulkan headers. Users of Skia are responsible for
providing the Vulkan headers when including Skia's public Vk headers.
This change only includes Skia's public Vk headers when Flutter is
providing the Vulkan headers.

ef050da2b8 Use moved Skia Ganesh header files (flutter/engine#54833)
In http://review.skia.org/892736 and http://review.skia.org/893856, Skia
moved its Ganesh headers to align with the Graphite ones. This updates
Flutter to use those moved files.

All changes are mechanical and there is no API difference between the
headers (indeed, the old ones simply `#include` the new ones).

5b06d21661 [Windows] Improve texture format logic (flutter/engine#54329)
This improves Flutter Window's texture format logic:

1. **If the device has extension `GL_EXT_texture_format_BGRA8888`**: backing stores' texture will be created with format `GL_BGRA_EXT` instead of `GL_RGBA8`. This is what fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/150546.
2. **Otherwise**: backing stores' texture will be created with format `GL_RGBA` and the engine will use the color type `kRGBA_8888_SkColorType` when creating the `SkSurface`.

   Previously the engine always used color type `kN32_SkColorType`, which could be either RGBA or BGRA depending on the machine that compiled the engine. This caused Skia validation errors as the texture's format did not match the Skia surface's color type.

   I tested this by editing Flutter Windows to force it down this code path.

Reverts flutter/engine#54453

Not quite ready to remove Impeller Scene yet because I'm still porting
the animation functionality. Keeping it around allows me to switch back
and forth to compare without having to recompile the engine.

Over a month ago I said something like "we can revert this a couple of
weeks from now" in one of the Impeller meetings. But for better or worse
(better, I think), I ended up spending a ton of time trying to make the
PBR good first (which doesn't exist in this C++ version).

76e6e34bb5 Add EGL Surface backing store (flutter/engine#43683)
Allows using an EGL surface as a flutter backing store. Way more convenient for GBM than hacking gbm bo's into GL FBOs.

This resolves https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/58363

Currently, the embedder API assumes that the compositor (if it exists) will let flutter render into FBOs or Textures and then composite the whole thing onto the actual (EGL) window surface. I think this assumption is also documented a bit in https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/38466

However, in my case, I want let the hardware do the composition (using the linux KMS API), and render each flutter layer into it's own EGL surface.

It's possible to hack around this by creating your own GBM BOs, importing those as EGL images, then importing those as GL Render Buffers and attaching those to GL FBOs and that works (tested it). However, that's basically reimplementing 50% of the whole GBM/EGL "window" system integration for no reason.

This PR adds:
1. To the embedder API:
   - a new kind of OpenGL Backing store: `FlutterOpenGLSurface`
     - consisting of just a `make_current` and destruction callback (plus userdata)
     - the make_current callback should make the target surface current, i.e. `eglMakeCurrent(..., surf, surf)`
     - will be called by the engine before rendering onto the backing store
2. Some wiring to call make_current before rendering into the backing store

5fb88851d5 Add Semantics Property linkUrl (flutter/engine#53507)
The new property allows the user to specify a URI for their semantics link node. It's plumbed through for both web and non-web engines, but it's only used in the web engine currently. It sets the `href` of the anchor element associated with semantics node.

This is going to unlock better semantics support in the Link widget on web ([PR](https://github.com/flutter/packages/pull/6711)).

`GrVkBackendContext` is an alias for `skgpu::VulkanBackendContext`, so

2b309db996 Add support for setting the heading level for web semantics (#97894) (flutter/engine#41435)
This change adds a new property in Semantics widget that would take an integer value corresponding to the heading levels defined by the ARIA heading role. This is necessary in order to get proper accessibility and usability in a website for users who rely on screen readers and other assistive technologies.

Skia would like to remove these deprecated fields, so this updates
Flutter's use of them to use the new ways.

Note that `VulkanWindow` seems to be unused (or no longer used?) since
there was a mistyped define (`SK_VUKLAN` -> `SK_VULKAN`) causing the
code I am fixing to never be run.

f20b17a2ae [Impeller] Prepare a SkiaGPU-less iOS build. (flutter/engine#52748)
The size of the LTO build of the engine with the dylib compressed is as follows:

```sh

5236	libFlutter.dylib.tar.gz
4324	libFlutterSlimpeller.dylib.tar.gz
```

Sizes are in KiB. This represents a binary size reduction of 17.41% of the compressed artifacts. The compression ratios will likely differ based on the compression scheme.

Uncompressed, the sizes are:

```sh
$ du -k libFlutter*
16920	libFlutter.dylib
14044	libFlutterSlimpeller.dylib
```

This represents a binary size reduction of 16.99% which is in the same ballpark.

The really mucky bit was backing out the raster cache and persistent cache. I want to clean that up in a later patch so that those TUs are part of a separate submodule.

Opting out of Impeller will lead to a fatal log at startup saying the opt-out is disallowed.

We're currently using the IO thread to bottleneck image uploads. Instead, just use fewer concurrent worker threads - and cap the limit at something small. For a Pixel device, this should use about 2 threads maximum, instead of  5 (4 worker and 1 IO).

dc82dbb0b9 Move Shell::Add/RemoveView to PlatformView and refine embedder API doc (flutter/engine#52003)
This PR moves the methods to add or remove views from `Shell` to
`PlatformView`. By design, the `Shell` is supposed to be a messenger
that glues classes together, while `PlatformView` is the operator that
embedders that do not use the embedder API should operate on. The
current design was made due to lack of knowledge to this design.

This also makes `PlatformView` aware of views, which might be a
prerequisite to https://github.com/flutter/engine/pull/51925.

This PR also adds some details to embedder API `AddView` and
`RemoveView`.

### Sync over async

Windows expects synchronous operations: windows are created, resized, and destroyed synchronously. However, Flutter native is asynchronous due to its [threading model](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/wiki/The-Engine-architecture#threading).

This change blocks the platform thread when a non-implicit view is added or removed. See: https://flutter.dev/go/multi-view-sync-over-async

### Synchronization

The embedder and engine have separate view states that they synchronize asynchronously. The engine can present a view on the raster thread while the embedder is destroying that same view on the platform thread. This change introduces a mutex to protect against this:

1. The platform thread acquires a **shared** lock whenever it needs to access the view.
2. The platform thread acquires an **exclusive** lock to add a view to the embedder, _before_ it notifies the engine of the view
3. The platform thread acquires an **exclusive** lock to remove a view from the embedder, *after* the engine has acknowledged the view's removal but *before* the embedder destroys the view.
4. The raster thread acquires a **shared** lock to present to a view. This lock is held for the entirety of the present operation, thereby blocking the platform thread from destroying the view.

The implicit view is an important corner case. The framework/engine believe the implicit view **always** exists, even if the app is in headless mode. The embedder does not notify the engine when it destroys the implicit view. In other words, the embedder must safely ignore presents to the implicit view when it does not exist.

694f9469bf Fix a memory error in a multithreaded test (flutter/engine#51951)
The culprit test asks different threads to access some stack variables, but the stack might return earlier than the threads' completion. This PR fixes it by adding latches.

This test, despite being possibly fine for now, consistently triggers the following asan error when I make some unrelated trivial changes.

7553282a55 Multiview backing store (flutter/engine#51722)
With this PR, backing stores are labeled with view IDs. When the engine requests the embedder to create a backing store, the engine will promise that it will only be used for a specific view.

This follows the design doc http://flutter.dev/go/backing-stores-for-multi-view-partial-repaint, so that backing stores can be used as a front surface that retains its content last frame.

The engine will create a render target cache for each view to cache backing stores separately.

### Alternative design

The separate render target cache for each view is not needed to implement the design doc, since all usages described in the design doc avoids the engine cache. Instead, we can make the engine still only manage one render target cache for all views, and backing stores in it are interchangeable across views. We might describe the behavior in this way:
* In general, the view ID is just provided to the creating callback as information. (This is how it is seen when the engine cache is avoided.)
* If the engine cache is used, then the created backing store might not be immediately collected, and might be reused for different views.

But it's really hard to explain the mechanism and the result is really confusing (as can be seen from my attempt). Why is there a view ID but it's not used, and if you enable the engine cache it's not even followed?

That's why I chose the current approach. Feel free to suggest otherwise for this.

Platform isolates are currently supported only on Android and iOS.

b363028a18 [Embedder API] Add view (flutter/engine#51523)

4ec8483024 Use moved GrBackendTexture factories for Skia's Metal backend (flutter/engine#51828)
In https://skia-review.googlesource.com/c/skia/+/833302, Skia moved the
constructors for Metal versions of GrBackendTexture (and other
functions/methods). This updates uses in Flutter to use the new APIs.

1bfca0c056 [Impeller] Add a TextureGLES API for wrapping a framebuffer and use it to implement OpenGL FBO targets in the embedder library (flutter/engine#51269)
The Linux embedder is rendering to a FlutterOpenGLFramebuffer that specifies an OpenGL FBO.  This API allows the embedder to create a color attachment that wraps the FBO so that the render pass will bind to that FBO during encoding.
