Refactor OverlayPortal semantics (#173005)
Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/163576 Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/175184 This PR refactored the grafting part on `OverlayPortal`. Originally, the semantics tree of `OverlayPortal` was constructed/grafted in render object phase to make sure the correctness of the traversal order. However this resulted wrong hit-test order and the issue surfaced on web. With the fact that on web we are not able to graft/correct hit-test order tree, this PR: * Reverts the original grafting of the `OverlayPortal` so the hit-test order is always correct. * Then, we adds the grafting and updates the traversal order when we send `childrenInTraversalOrder` to engine. * Updating `childrenInTraversalOrder` causes it have different length from the length of `childrenInHitTestOrder` and wrong hit-test transform of the `OverlayPortal` children because when the transform is calculated, it assumes a correct traversal order. To fix these issues, this PR also: * recalculates the transform for `OverlayPortal` children. * adds `hitTestTransform` property and pass it to Android engine. * skip grafting for web because it assumes the same length of `childrenInTraversalOrder` and `childrenInHitTestOrder`. * added grafting by using `ARIA-owns` in web engine to fix the traversal order. ## Pre-launch Checklist - [x] I read the [Contributor Guide] and followed the process outlined there for submitting PRs. - [x] I read the [Tree Hygiene] wiki page, which explains my responsibilities. - [x] I read and followed the [Flutter Style Guide], including [Features we expect every widget to implement]. - [x] I signed the [CLA]. - [x] I listed at least one issue that this PR fixes in the description above. - [x] I updated/added relevant documentation (doc comments with `///`). - [x] I added new tests to check the change I am making, or this PR is [test-exempt]. - [x] I followed the [breaking change policy] and added [Data Driven Fixes] where supported. - [x] All existing and new tests are passing. |

Implement Regular Windows for the win32 framework + add an example application for regular windows (#173715)
## What's new?
- Implement and test `_window_win32.dart`, the Win32 implementation of
`_window.dart` 🎉
- Wrote a bunch of tests in `window_win32_test.dart` which uses a mock
API barrier to mock the native Win32 layer
- Update `BaseWindowController` to extend `ChangeNotifier` and use it to
inform the `WindowScope` of when things change
- Made `RegularWindowController.empty()` a non-internal constructor, as
it is needed by implementations
- Added a _large_ example application for windowing where users can test
out different windowing concepts and see how they work!
To test, simply run the tests or try out the example app!
## Pre-launch Checklist

Fix mutating Paint bug (#171180)
A tricky bug was encountered in https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/170321/files#r2138619243 where mutating Paint caused [paints](https://main-api.flutter.dev/flutter/flutter_test/paints.html) to behave strangely. Originally this PR just added something to the docs for `paints` to give people a heads up, but now it fixes the root cause. Yak shave 🪒 . Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/171194 |

Route transition duration (#171109)
We need a robust way to get the duration of a route transition in tests,
so that tests can remain independent of the type of route transition and
its duration.
With this PR, this will be the canonical way to pump until a page
transition has finished:
```dart
testWidgets('example', (WidgetTester tester) async {
final TransitionDurationObserver observer = TransitionDurationObserver();
await tester.pumpWidget(
MaterialApp(
navigatorObservers: <NavigatorObserver>[observer],
onGenerateRoute: (RouteSettings settings) { ... },
),
);
expect(find.text('Page 1'), findsOneWidget);
expect(find.text('Page 2'), findsNothing);
// Pump through the whole transition.
await tester.tap(find.text('Next'));
await observer.pumpPastTransition(tester);
expect(find.text('Page 1'), findsNothing);
expect(find.text('Page 2'), findsOneWidget);
// Or, pump through part of a transition with the duration.
await tester.tap(find.text('Back'));
await tester.pump(observer.transitionDuration ~/ 2);
expect(find.text('Page 1'), findsOneWidget);
expect(find.text('Page 2'), findsOneWidget);
});
```
This was spun out of https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/165832,
where updating the default route transition and its duration broke tests
in the framework, in customer tests, and in Google tests.

[web] More granular configuration of the test environment (#168767)
There's today a single boolean `debugEmulateFlutterTesterEnvironment` that determines certain behaviors in the engine to emulate how the Flutter Tester runs (more details at https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/145779). With this PR: - Run all engine unit tests in production mode by default. - Give tests more granular control over which test behaviors to enable/disable (e.g. Ahem font). - Keep it easy for framework tests to enable all emulation behaviors. Reverts "Use live region in error text input decorator for Android (#165531)" (#168848)

While `liveRegion` announces the first error encountered, subsequent submissions with the same error message on Android would not trigger a re-announcement. **Original Solution:** Pull request https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/123373 addressed this by implementing the `announce` event to ensure error messages were consistently announced, even for repeated submissions. **Native Android Behavior (Jetpack Compose):** In native Android development using Jetpack Compose, setting the `isError` property of a `TextField` to `true` triggers Talkback to announce "Error invalid input." This announcement occurs *only* on the initial change to the error state. Subsequent errors, even if the `isError` property remains `true`, are not re-announced. This behavior closely mirrors the functionality of `liveRegion`, with the key difference being that `liveRegion` also announces the specific error text, in addition to the general error state. Testing in a native Jetpack Compose application confirms this behavior and provides a valuable comparison point against the current Flutter form example. **Suggested Action:** **Fork** the behavior in https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/123373. Reinstate the use of `liveRegion` for error announcements within `widgets/Form` for Android and keep other platforms the same. Use live region in error text input decorator for Android (#165531)

Migrate in-comment links of the flutter/engine repository to the flutter/flutter repository (#166790)
This PR migrates almost all in-comment links that points to the main branch of flutter/engine repository to the flutter/flutter repository, ensuring that such links are always up to date. I've manually verified that all links are valid. There are a few cases where the migration is not so trivial and I had to look up for the updated location or line number, but I'm pretty sure the new value is correct. The only place that I don't know how to migrate is two links in [Upgrading-pre-1.12-Android-projects.md](https://github.com/flutter/flutter/blob/master/docs/platforms/android/Upgrading-pre-1.12-Android-projects.md) pointing to `https://github.com/flutter/engine/blob/main/shell/platform/android/io/flutter/app/FlutterActivity.java`, which I guess no longer exists. There are still many links that point to a specific branch or revision of the engine repo. I don't think we need to migrate these links, since they're probably not meant to be kept up to date. ## Pre-launch Checklist - [ ] I read the [Contributor Guide] and followed the process outlined there for submitting PRs. - [ ] I read the [Tree Hygiene] wiki page, which explains my responsibilities. - [ ] I read and followed the [Flutter Style Guide], including [Features we expect every widget to implement]. - [ ] I signed the [CLA]. - [ ] I listed at least one issue that this PR fixes in the description above. - [ ] I updated/added relevant documentation (doc comments with `///`). - [ ] I added new tests to check the change I am making, or this PR is [test-exempt]. - [ ] I followed the [breaking change policy] and added [Data Driven Fixes] where supported. - [ ] All existing and new tests are passing. Make realAsyncZone run microtasks and timers in the correct zone. (#162731)
Current implementation runs timers and microtask callbacks in the root zone. That assumes that the top-level `scheduleMicrotask` or `Timer` constructors have been used, which have so far wrapped the callback with `runCallbackGuarded` before calling the zone implementation. That means that doing `zone.scheduleMicrotask` directly would not ensure that the microtask was run in the correct zone. If a `run` handler throws, it wouldn't be caught. This change makes the `realAsyncZone` do whatever the root zone would do if its `ZoneDelegate` got called with the intended zone and arguments. That should be consistent with the current behavior, and be compatible with incoming bug-fixes to the platform `Zone` behavior. Prepares Flutter for landing https://dart-review.googlesource.com/c/sdk/+/406961 which is currently blocked (so this indirectly fixes https://github.com/dart-lang/sdk/issues/59913). There are no new tests, the goal is that all existing tests keep running, and that they keep doing so when the Dart CL lands. Currently that CL only breaks one test, the `dev/automated_tests/test_smoke_test/fail_test_on_exception_after_test.dart` test which threw the error-after-test in the root zone instead of the test zone. This change fixes that. |

[Accessibility] Add required semantics flags (#164585)
This adds "required" semantic nodes, which indicate a node that requires user input before a form can be submitted. On Flutter Web, these get converted into [`aria-required` attributes](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Accessibility/ARIA/Attributes/aria-required). Addresses https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/162139 ### Example app _⚠️ This example app includes a `DropdownMenu` which currently produces an incorrect semantics tree. That will be fixed by https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/163638._ Today, you wrap your control in a `Semantics(required: true, child ...)`. For example: <details> <summary>Example app with required semantic flags...</summary> ```dart import 'dart:ui'; import 'package:flutter/material.dart'; import 'package:flutter/semantics.dart'; void main() { runApp(const MyApp()); SemanticsBinding.instance.ensureSemantics(); } class MyApp extends StatelessWidget { const MyApp({super.key}); @override Widget build(BuildContext context) { return MaterialApp(home: Scaffold(body: const MyForm())); } } class MyForm extends StatefulWidget { const MyForm({super.key}); @override State<MyForm> createState() => MyFormState(); } class MyFormState extends State<MyForm> { int _dropdownValue = 0; bool _checkboxValue = false; int _radioGroupValue = 0; @override Widget build(BuildContext context) { return Column( crossAxisAlignment: Add clipRSuperellipse, and use them for dialogs (#161111)
This PR makes Flutter support `clipRSuperellipse`, and apply it to `CupertinoAlertDialog`. Add a isSystemTextScaler matcher (#160120)
This is for https://github.com/flutter/flutter/pull/159999. That PR breaks registered tests so a new matcher is added for soft transition & making it slightly easier to write tests that verify nothing is shadowing the system text scaler in the widget tree. If this approach sounds plausible & gets merged, I'm going to: 1. remake the breaking change announcement 2. update the migration guide with the new matcher, 3. migrate the registered tests and mark #159999 as ready for review. Remove outdated ignores (#162773)
Powered by the new and amazing `unnecessary_ignore` lint. We're not enabling this lint by default because being able to temporarily use ignores that don't ignore anything is a powerful tool to enable migrations. We should turn this lint on locally periodically, though, and clean up all outdated ignores. |

Proposal to deprecate webGoldenComparator. (#161196)
Towards https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/160261.
This is a PR and proposal all-in-one to deprecate, and remove, pending
the removal of the HTML backend, `WebGoldenComparator` (and related
symbols, `webGoldenComparator` and `DefaultWebGoldenComparator`).
The concept of `WebGoldenComparator` was added because the HTML-based
renderer could not support the `GoldenFileComparator` contract:

Auto-format Framework (#160545)
This auto-formats all *.dart files in the repository outside of the `engine` subdirectory and enforces that these files stay formatted with a presubmit check. **Reviewers:** Please carefully review all the commits except for the one titled "formatted". The "formatted" commit was auto-generated by running `dev/tools/format.sh -a -f`. The other commits were hand-crafted to prepare the repo for the formatting change. I recommend reviewing the commits one-by-one via the "Commits" tab and avoiding Github's "Files changed" tab as it will likely slow down your browser because of the size of this PR. --------- Co-authored-by: Kate Lovett <katelovett@google.com> Co-authored-by: LongCatIsLooong <31859944+LongCatIsLooong@users.noreply.github.com> |

Adjust ignores for 'dart format' (#160382)
When running `dart format` over these lines the `// ignore` ended up on a line where it wasn't properly ignoring the lint. This adjusts the placement of `// ignore`s so they will continue to ignore the right thing even after the code is auto formatted. I am hoping that if we do this now the large PR that formats the entire repo will go in smoother without manual intervention. |

Add bySemanticsIdentifier finder for finding by identifier (#155571)
## Add `bySemanticsIdentifier` finder for finding by identifier
### Description
This pull request introduces a new finder, `CommonFinders.bySemanticsIdentifier`, to the Flutter testing framework. This finder allows developers to locate `Semantics` widgets based on their `identifier` property, enhancing the precision and flexibility of widget tests.
### Motivation
Establish a consistent and reliable method for locating elements in integration and end-to-end (e2e) tests. Unlike `label` or `key`, which may carry functional significance within the application, the `identifier` is purely declarative and does not impact functionality. Utilizing the `identifier` for finding semantics widgets ensures that tests can target specific elements without interfering with the app's behavior, thereby enhancing test reliability, maintainability, and reusability across testing frameworks.
### Changes
- **semantics.dart**
- Updated documentation to mention that `identifier` can be matched using `CommonFinders.bySemanticsIdentifier`.
- **finders.dart**
- Added the `bySemanticsIdentifier` method to `CommonFinders`.
- Supports both exact string matches and regular expression patterns.
- Includes error handling to ensure semantics are enabled during tests.
- **finders_test.dart**
- Added tests to verify that `bySemanticsIdentifier` correctly finds widgets by exact identifier and regex patterns.
- Ensures that the finder behaves as expected when semantics are not enabled.
### Usage
Developers can use the new finder in their tests as follows:
```dart
// Exact match
expect(find.bySemanticsIdentifier('Back'), findsOneWidget);
// Regular expression match
expect(find.bySemanticsIdentifier(RegExp(r'^item-')), findsNWidgets(2));
```

pattern-matching refactor (#154753)
This pull request aims to improve code readability, based on feedback gathered in a recent design doc.
<br>
There are two factors that hugely impact how easy it is to understand a piece of code: **verbosity** and **complexity**.
Reducing **verbosity** is important, because boilerplate makes a project more difficult to navigate. It also has a tendency to make one's eyes gloss over, and subtle typos/bugs become more likely to slip through.
Reducing **complexity** makes the code more accessible to more people. This is especially important for open-source projects like Flutter, where the code is read by those who make contributions, as well as others who read through source code as they debug their own projects.
<hr>
<br>
The following examples show how pattern-matching might affect these two factors:
<details> <summary><h3>Example 1 (GOOD)</h3> [click to expand]</summary>
```dart
if (ancestor case InheritedElement(:final InheritedTheme widget)) {
themes.add(widget);
}
```
Without using patterns, this might expand to
```dart
if (ancestor is InheritedElement) {
final InheritedWidget widget = ancestor.widget;
if (widget is InheritedTheme) {
themes.add(widget);
}
}
```
Had `ancestor` been a non-local variable, it would need to be "converted" as well:
```dart
final Element ancestor = this.ancestor;
if (ancestor is InheritedElement) {
final InheritedWidget inheritedWidget = ancestor.widget;
if (widget is InheritedTheme) {
themes.add(theme);
}
}
```
</details>
<details> <summary><h3>Example 2 (BAD) </h3> [click to expand]</summary>
```dart
if (widget case PreferredSizeWidget(preferredSize: Size(:final double height))) {
return height;
}
```
Assuming `widget` is a non-local variable, this would expand to:
```dart
final Widget widget = this.widget;
if (widget is PreferredSizeWidget) {
return widget.preferredSize.height;
}
```
<br>
</details>
In both of the examples above, an `if-case` statement simultaneously verifies that an object meets the specified criteria and performs a variable assignment accordingly.
But there are some differences: Example 2 uses a more deeply-nested pattern than Example 1 but makes fewer useful checks.
**Example 1:**
- checks that `ancestor` is an `InheritedElement`
- checks that the inherited element's `widget` is an `InheritedTheme`
**Example 2:**
- checks that `widget` is a `PreferredSizeWidget`
(every `PreferredSizeWidget` has a `size` field, and every `Size` has a `height` field)
<br>
<hr>
I feel hesitant to try presenting a set of cut-and-dry rules as to which scenarios should/shouldn't use pattern-matching, since there are an abundance of different types of patterns, and an abundance of different places where they might be used.
But hopefully the conversations we've had recently will help us converge toward a common intuition of how pattern-matching can best be utilized for improved readability.

Address frame policy benchmark flakes (#155130)
Recently the microbenchmarks were flakey, but from an older bug. Turns out, `LiveTestWidgetsFlutterBindingFramePolicy` is defaulted to `fadePointers` with this fun note: > This can result in additional frames being pumped beyond those that the test itself requests, which can cause differences in behavior Both `text_intrinsic_bench` and `build_bench` use a similar pattern: * Load stocks app * Open the menu * Switch to `benchmark` frame policy What happens, rarely, is that `LiveTestWidgetsFlutterBinding.pumpBenchmark()` will call (async) `handleBeginFrame` and `handleDrawFrame`. `handleDrawFrame` juggles a tri-state boolean (null, false, true). This boolean is only reset to `null` when handleDrawFrame is called back to back, say, from an extra frame that was scheduled. 1. Switch tri-state boolean to an enum, its easier to read 2. remove asserts that compile away in benchmarks (`--profile`) 3. use `Error.throwWithStackTrace` to keep stack traces. I've been running this test on device lab hardware for hundreds of runs and have not hit a failure yet. Fixes #150542 Fixes #150543 - throw stack! |
