# Framework:
* `EditableText`/`SelectableText`, applies
`lineHeightScaleFactorOverride`, `wordSpacingOverride`, and
`letterSpacingOverride` to it's `TextStyle` similarly to how we already
do for bold platform overrides. Note `SelectableText` is built on
`EditableText` so it also applies these overrides.
* `Text`, applies `lineHeightScaleFactorOverride`,
`wordSpacingOverride`, and `letterSpacingOverride` to it's `TextStyle`
similarly to how we already do for bold platform overrides.
* Exposes line height override through
`MediaQueryData.lineHeightScaleFactorOverride` and
`maybeLineHeightScaleFactorOverrideOf(context)`.
* Exposes letter spacing override through
`MediaQueryData.letterSpacingOverride` and
`maybeLetterSpacingOverrideOf(context)`.
* Exposes word spacing override through
`MediaQueryData.wordSpacingOverride` and
`maybeWordSpacingOverrideOf(context)`.
* Exposes paragraph spacing override through
`MediaQueryData.paragraphSpacingOverride` and
`maybeParagraphSpacingOverrideOf(context)`.
* `MediaQuery.applyTextStyleOverrides()` \
`MediaQueryData.applyTextStyleOverrides()` to be able to reset/override
the text spacing settings on `MediaQueryData`.
# Engine:
* Introduces new members on `PlatformDispatcher` API that hold the text
spacing properties that are overridden on the web.
* We provide the `lineHeightScaleFactorOverride`,
`letterSpacingOverride`, `wordSpacingOverride`, and
`paragraphSpacingOverride` on the web by attaching a `ResizeObserver` to
an off-screen hidden element, when its size changes we capture its text
spacing CSS properties, and notify the framework through
`onMetricsChanged`.

This auto-formats all *.dart files in the repository outside of the
`engine` subdirectory and enforces that these files stay formatted with
a presubmit check.
**Reviewers:** Please carefully review all the commits except for the
one titled "formatted". The "formatted" commit was auto-generated by
running `dev/tools/format.sh -a -f`. The other commits were hand-crafted
to prepare the repo for the formatting change. I recommend reviewing the
commits one-by-one via the "Commits" tab and avoiding Github's "Files
changed" tab as it will likely slow down your browser because of the
size of this PR.

Addresses an issue where `DefaultTextStyle.merge` is missing the `textHeightBehavior` argument. The argument is present in the `DefaultTextStyle` constructor.
Resolves#120176
Multiple fixes related to heading levels:
* Fix heading level absorption. Heading level would get erased when a semantics config is absorbed into another. With this change the highest heading level wins.
* Add `headingLevel` to the diagnostics of `SemanticsNode`.
* Add unit-tests for heading levels.
* Add an a11y use-case for headings.
Improves https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/46789 and general accessibility of headings.
Remove more `textScaleFactor` references from flutter/flutter.
- Some changes are related to label scaling: the padding EdgeInsets values of some chip subclasses scale linearly between predetermined "max" padding values and "min" padding values. Before they scale with the `textScaleFactor` scalar, now they scale with the font size and are still capped at the original "max" and "min" values.
- The rest of them are tests or size heuristics that depend on `textScaleFactor`, these are replaced by an effective text scale factor computed using a default font size (which is determined in a pretty random fashion, but it will only make a difference on Android 14+).
No API changes in this batch. There are still some references left that I intend to remove in a different batch that would introduce API changes.
Fixes https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/59413
This relocates `mock_canvas.dart` and `recording_canvas.dart` from `flutter/test/rendering` to `flutter_test`.
The testing functionality afforded by mock_canvas should be available to everyone, not just the framework. :)
mock_canvas.dart needed a bit of cleanup - things like formatting and super parameters.
Deprecate `textScaleFactor` in favor of `textScaler`, in preparation for Android 14 [Non-linear font scaling to 200%](https://developer.android.com/about/versions/14/features#non-linear-font-scaling). The `TextScaler` class can be moved to `dart:ui` in the future, if we decide to use the Android platform API or AndroidX to get the scaling curve instead of hard coding the curve in the framework.
I haven't put the Flutter version in the deprecation message so the analyzer checks are failing. Will do so after I finish the migration guide.
**Why `TextScaler.textScaleFactor`**
The author of a `TextScaler` subclass should provide a fallback `textScaleFactor`. By making `TextScaler` also contain the `textScaleFactor` information it also makes it easier to migrate: if a widget overrides `MediaQueryData.textScaler` in the tree, for unmigrated widgets in the subtree it would also have to override `MediaQueryData.textScaleFactor`, and that makes it difficult to remove `MediaQueryData.textScaleFactor` in the future.
## A full list of affected APIs in this PR
Deprecated: The method/getter/setter/argument is annotated with a `@Deprecated()` annotation in this PR, and the caller should replace it with `textScaler` instead. Unless otherwise specified there will be a Flutter fix available to help with migration but it's still recommended to migrate case-by-case.
**Replaced**: The method this `textScaleFactor` argument belongs to is rarely called directly by user code and is not overridden by any of the registered custom tests, so the argument is directly replaced by `TextScaler`.
**To Be Deprecated**: The method/getter/setter/argument can't be deprecated in this PR because a registered customer test depends on it and a Flutter fix isn't available (or the test was run without applying flutter fixes first). This method/getter/setter/argument will be deprecated in a followup PR once the registered test is migrated.

A lot of material widgets (`Slider`, `RangeSlider`, `TimePicker`, and different types of buttons) also change their layout based on `textScaleFactor`. These need to be handled in a case-by-case fashion and will be migrated in follow-up PRs.
Updated tests in dev, examples/api, and tests/widgets to ensure that
they continue to pass when the default for `ThemeData.useMaterial3` is
changed to true.
This is the final set of changes required for
https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/127064.
- Added `InlineWidgetContainerDefaults` for deduping inline widget code
- Added a helper function `WidgetSpan.extractFromInlineSpan` for extracting `WidgetSpan`s and automatically applying text scaling (at widget level)
- Removed `TextPainter.inlinePlaceholderScales`. I'm going to deprecate the `scale` argument in `TextPainter.addPlaceholder` next, as scaling is now done at the widget level.
- Added runtime check and comments to make sure nobody is extending `PlaceholderSpan` directly (unfortunately we can't remove `PlaceholderSpan` without moving RenderEditable and RenderParagraph to the widgets library).
Improves `TextPainter.layout` caching when only the input constraints change:
- removes the double layout calls in `TextPainter._layoutParagraph`: now double layout is only needed when `TextAlign` is not left, and the input `maxWidth == double.infinity`.
- skip calls to `ui.Paragraph.layout` when it's guaranteed that there's no soft line breaks before/after the layout call.
This doesn't introduce new APIs but may slightly shift text rendered on screen.
This reduces the number of `layout` calls but since shaping results are already cached so it only skips the relatively cheap line-breaking process when possible.
528 scuba failures but all of them seem reasonable.
